It has been a year since Jury Trials and Grand Jury Proceedings were suspended at the Fifth Judicial Circuit, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This week, many jurors were called to come back to court and serve, as jury trials resume in all Circuit 5 courts.

Chief Justice Canady reflects on how Florida’s courts have acclimated to the changed environment and continued the work of justice during the pandemic.

Florida’s Chief Justice Charles Canady has issued an administrative order authorizing some remote criminal jury trials as COVID-19 pandemic conditions persist around the state. This order extends a similar authorization issued in June 2020 for some civil trials.

Broward will begin limited face-to-face hearings and jury trials in the county and circuit criminal divisions in the West and North Towers of the downtown Courthouse beginning March 8, 2021.

Anthony Rondolino, the chief judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, recently modified the sixth circuit's operational plan. As of March 1, 2021, criminal jury trials will resume in Pinellas County. As of March 15, 2021, criminal and civil jury trials will resume in Pasco County.

The temporary suspension of jury trials enacted by the Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Miami-Dade Courts, will expire this coming Feb. 28^th, and jury trials will resume on March 1, 2021 in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, the Miami-Dade Courts.
